Translated from Chinese as "scrape away illness," gua sha is traditional form of Chinese medicine that uses a soft natural stone surface to stimulate circulation. The curved stone is pulled gently but firmly across the face or neck. This act of "effleurage" massage is thought to stimulate circulation, release toxins, and reduce puffiness. (See this video for some tips.)
