Van Van's Crimson Galangal (riį»ng Äį») hails from Thanh HoĆ”, a province in the north-central Vietnam. A staple in Northern and Central Vietnamese cuisine, as well as in Southeast Asian cooking, galangal offers a unique spicy warmth.
Although galangal resembles ginger, its flavor is distinctively different. Crimson Galangal boasts peppery and earthy notes reminiscent of spruce tips and pink peppercorn, enhancing various dishes such as stews, braises, and curries. Among Vietnamās three galangal varieties, the red galangal stands out for its remarkable fragrance.Ā
How to use
- Rehydrate the galangal by letting it bloom in water for 1-2 minutes, then drain excess water
- Use in place of fresh galangal
- If skipping rehydration, begin cooking with low heat to prevent burning
- Great for marinades, stir-fry, soups, desserts, syrups, teas, and drinks
- Please note this product cooks quickly with the heat on. If using multiple herbs, prepare them separately as they have different cooking times.
